A day in Pajala; 'Kolari of Sweden'

We'll hop on a bus at 9 am and head from Hotelli Kolari across Torne River for foothill Jupukka in Swedish Pajala. On top of Jupukka there is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites: Struve Geodetic Arc. We'll climb Jupukka to admire the view as our guide tells us more about Struve and his Geodetic Arc.

Charcoal-pit Kolmilan

The next stop on our journey is an old charcoal-pit Kolmilan. In the magical atmosphere of this underground restaurant we'll have our candle-lit lunch in front of a fireplace. After our meal we'll head for the village of Pajala and drop by in a souvenirs-shop Kåsan. After a short stay we'll continue to Laestadius Kulturum; the home and the old vicarage of the founder of the Laestadian religious movement, Lars Levi Laestadius. A local guide will show us around the exhibition and tell us about this man, who was important both in Finland and in Sweden.

Laestadius museum

After an interesting afternoon we'll get to know another historical site: Kengis factory was built in the 17th century. We'll have a cup of coffee while our guide tells us the story of the factory.
