Lappish charm east of Torne River

www.kolari.fi

Lapland is so much more than just snow and Santa..! Kolari (or 'Snuff Valley', as the locals call it) has a rich and vibrant Lappish culture that can be found very much alive in the small Lake Villages around fell-Ylläs.

Activities for the snowless time consist of playing with water alongside the clear and clean rivers and streems of Lapland. Relaxing on a river raft or catching salmon from a row-boat in Lappea as well as fly-fishing or angling are guaranteed ways to unwind. During the autumn the berries await for their picker in the splendidly coloured forests and marshlands of Lapland.

The most traditional of the traditional sources fo livelihood in Lapland - Reindeer farming - is still alive and going strong. Reindeer farmer Sami introduces our guests to the history of village Venejärvi and the ancient skill of managing reindeer during a trip to his Reindeer farm. You can get to know the reindeer more closely during Reindeer hiking - the traditional method of travel in Lapland.

Activities during the snowy time include cross-country skiing and down-hill skiing trips to the fells Ylläs, Levi, Olos and Pallas as well as husky-safaries, snowmobile safaries and winter fishing on a frozen river.

Sami's Reindeer farm can of course be visited in the dead of winter and the Fell Villages of Ylläsjärvi and Äkäslompolo will be visited over a sightseeing tour.
